Q&A about Canyon
Space Team Membership
Q: Who do I contact
if I am interested in becoming a member?
People who are interested in joining the Canyon Space Team or
have specific questions about our membership policies should contact
us at membership@canyonspaceteam.org.
Our membership director will then contact you and send more information
about meeting dates and times. You are encouraged to write about
the areas you think you can help in, and about your abilities
in general when you send us your email. A membership application
is available in the download section.
Q: How old do I have
to be to be a member?
The CST emphasizes education as part of the entire program.
Students and young people are encouraged to join the team and
learn by doing. There are a number of college students, some high
school students, and even a few elementary students that participate
actively in any way they can. Obviously most will not be designing
the control system, but there are no lack of things to do, and
cooperation throughout the entire team assures that everyone has
a chance to do something they are good at. Everyone is a student
in this field of civilian space flight, so anyone willing to learn
is welcome. Minors will be required to have their parents permission,
and oftentimes the young adult will spark his/her parents interest
in becoming a member.
Q: Who are you looking
for to become members?
The CST grows by letting people become involved in the areas they
are interested in. Anyone who believe they have something to contribute
is welcome. We are looking to create an outstanding organization
of dedicated team players. Nearly all of our members maintain
full time jobs or are full time students while also making significant
contributions to the team. Opportunities range from mechanic and
technician work to conceptual and detailed design. Because the
team designs and builds equipment simultaneously and all of the
project teams work together, all participants are involved in
determining the design and manufacture of equipment. We look forward
to the future, and what radical new designs may come, but are
focused on bringing practical spaceflight to the public. Thus,
people who are interested in becoming a core team member should
be willing to turn a wrench as well as discuss a rocket engine,
but most importantly should be willing to learn and be involved.
Q: Can I get more information
about becoming a member?
When you email the membership
director at membership@canyonspaceteam.org, the return message,
in addition to answering specific questions you may have, also
will ask you to meet and become sponsored by two of the current
core team members. Actually meeting the team members and working
with them gives most people a good background for deciding whether
they would like to become a member. This also ensures that the
people who would like to join realize the function of having goals
and following them, helping the team remain on track. The membership
director will most likely give the dates and times for the Museum
of Flight meetings so that you may meet some of the current members
before deciding to get involved.
Q: Who
can I contact if I have a specific question?
The webmaster is
one of the core team members, so contacting him at info@canyonspaceteam.org
is generally the quickest way to get your questions answered.
The membership
director, available by emailing to membership@canyonspaceteam.org,
is also able to forward your questions on to those who can answer
it or answer it himself. Usually either will reply within 24 hrs,
but sometimes this is not possible. Nonetheless, your question
will be answered quickly and precisely as it is sent out to the
people on the team most appropriately suited to answer it.
